Sending photos you're not ready to make public, or images meant for one client's eyes only? WeTransfer lets you put a password on any image transfer before it goes out. Anyone who follows your link lands on a prompt first, and nothing downloads until they enter the right password.
Keep your files private
When images carry creative work in progress, confidential client assets, or anything you'd rather not have circulating freely, a shareable link alone isn't enough. WeTransfer's password protection adds a checkpoint to your transfer, so recipients must enter the correct password before they can view or download a single file. You set the password in the transfer window as part of uploading, and it never appears in the notification email, meaning you choose how to pass it along through a channel of your own. Recipients can still preview supported image formats directly in their browser before deciding what to download, and that preview is gated by the same password you set. The protection is available on every plan and works alongside WeTransfer's encryption, not instead of it.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Fill in the Password field in the transfer options panel before clicking Transfer. You'll see it alongside the other settings when you add your images. Once set, anyone who opens your link is asked to enter the password before they can see or download anything. The password is never sent in the notification email, so share it with your recipients through a separate message.
Yes. WeTransfer's password protection applies to the whole transfer regardless of which image formats are inside, whether that's JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIC, PSD, RAW files like ARW or CR3, or anything else. All files in the transfer sit behind the same password prompt. Recipients need to enter the correct password before they can access or download any of them.
You can. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer, and select Change password or Remove password from the settings. The change takes effect immediately on the live link, so there's no need to re-upload your images or send a new link. Just let your recipients know the new password directly, since WeTransfer doesn't notify them automatically when it changes.
The password gates the entire transfer, including the in-browser preview. Recipients land on a password prompt as soon as they open the link, and only see the preview or any individual files after entering the correct password. For image formats like JPEG, PNG, PSD, and several RAW types, the preview is viewable directly in the browser once they're in, without needing to download first.
No account is needed. Anyone with the link and the password can open the transfer and download the images, without signing up or logging in. The password itself is the barrier. If you want tighter control beyond a password, you can also enable restricted access, which limits downloads to specific email addresses you approve.
