Healthcare teams share diagnostic scans, imaging reports, and clinical photos that cannot be accessible to anyone who stumbles on a link. WeTransfer lets you lock any image transfer behind a password before it goes out, so every recipient faces a prompt the moment they open the link and cannot see a single file until they enter the correct code. Works on every plan, no IT setup required.
Keep your files private
Sharing medical images, whether radiology scans, clinical photography, or pathology stills, calls for a layer of access control that starts the moment your transfer leaves your hands. WeTransfer builds the password directly into the transfer itself, and it never appears in the notification email, so you decide through a separate channel who receives the code and when. Recipients can preview supported image formats in-browser before downloading, letting a clinician or specialist confirm they have the right files without pulling them onto a local device. If a patient case changes or access needs to be tightened, you can update or remove the password from any active transfer in your Transfers panel without re-uploading a single file. All transfers are encrypted in transit and at rest, and files are stored on ISO 27001-certified infrastructure in the EU.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
When you create a transfer, a password field appears in the transfer options panel before you click Send. Type in your chosen password, complete the upload, and WeTransfer attaches that gate to the link itself. Because the password never appears in the notification email, you share it with the receiving clinician, department, or external provider through a separate channel, keeping access tightly controlled.
Yes. Recipients never need a WeTransfer account to download or preview a transfer. They simply open the link, enter the password you have shared with them, and the images become accessible. This makes it straightforward to share diagnostic scans or clinical photos with specialists, referral partners, or external labs who are not on your organisation's systems.
Yes. Password protection and restricted access work alongside each other on all plans. With restricted access enabled, only recipients whose email addresses appear on your specified list can open the transfer at all, and they still need the password on top of that. For clinical images carrying identifiable patient information, layering both controls adds a meaningful extra barrier against accidental or unauthorised access.
WeTransfer includes basic download tracking on all plans. In your Transfers panel, each sent transfer shows whether it has been downloaded, and email transfers display a confirmation next to each recipient's address once they complete the download. For more detailed tracking, you can enable tracked downloads, which logs who accessed the transfer and when, giving healthcare teams a clear record for audit or handover purposes.
Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer, and you can set a new password, change the existing one, or remove it entirely, all without re-uploading the images. Changes take effect immediately, so if access permissions shift during a patient case, a referral process, or a compliance review, you can adjust the transfer on the spot.
