Client deliverables, financial reports, and due diligence documents carry real exposure if they land in the wrong hands. Set a password on any transfer before you share the link, and every recipient is prompted to enter it before they can reach a single PDF. Every plan includes password protection, and there is nothing to install or configure.
Keep your files private
Consulting and audit professionals send documents that are frequently confidential, time-sensitive, and subject to strict access requirements, and a password gives you direct control over who can open what you deliver. You set the password inside the upload window before sending, and it is never included in the notification WeTransfer sends to the recipient, so you pass the code through your own preferred channel, whether that is a phone call, a client portal message, or a separate email. PDFs arrive exactly as you uploaded them, with no reformatting or quality loss, so a signed engagement letter or a marked-up financial statement reads identically at the other end. If access requirements change after the transfer is sent, you can add, update, or remove the password on any active transfer directly from your Transfers panel without re-uploading the files. For engagements where a password alone is not sufficient, you can pair it with restricted access, which limits downloads to a named list of email addresses so only verified individuals can reach the documents even if they have the correct code.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
When you create a transfer, you will find a password field in the transfer options panel before clicking Transfer. Enter the code you want, complete the upload, and every recipient who opens the link will be prompted to enter that password before any PDF or other file is accessible. The password is never included in the WeTransfer notification email, so you share it with your client or counterpart through whichever channel your engagement requires.
Yes. Open your Transfers panel, click the relevant transfer, and select Set password, Change password, or Remove, depending on what you need. The change takes effect immediately for anyone who opens the link from that point forward. This is useful when client contacts change mid-engagement or when a document moves from draft review to final sign-off and access needs to be updated.
No account is required. Anyone who receives the download link simply enters the password you have shared with them and can access the files directly in their browser. This matters in consulting and audit contexts where external counterparties, regulators, or clients are unlikely to hold a WeTransfer account and you cannot ask them to create one.
Yes. Password protection works alongside restricted access, which lets you specify a list of email addresses that are permitted to download the transfer. Even if someone obtains the download link and knows the password, they will be blocked unless their email address is on your access list. For highly sensitive due diligence files, board materials, or draft audit opinions, combining both controls gives you a clear record of who was authorised and when they downloaded.
No. Files are transferred exactly as uploaded, with no compression, reformatting, or quality change of any kind. A PDF with embedded signatures, annotations, tracked changes, or complex layouts will arrive at the recipient's end byte-for-byte identical to the file you sent. WeTransfer creates a ZIP archive when multiple files are downloaded together, but individual PDFs within that archive are untouched.
