When you add your audio files to the transfer window, look for the password field in the transfer options before clicking Transfer. Type the password you want to use, then complete the upload as normal. WeTransfer never sends the password inside the notification email, so you share it with your intended recipient through a separate channel, a message, a call, or wherever makes sense for your workflow.
No. WeTransfer sends every file in its original format without re-encoding, converting, or altering quality in any way. A 24-bit WAV or a lossless AIFF arrives on the other end exactly as it left your drive. Password protection has no effect on the files themselves, only on who can access the download link.
Yes. Once a recipient enters the correct password, they can preview supported audio file types, including MP3 and WAV files up to 300 MB, directly in the browser before downloading anything. No account is required to download or preview a transfer. Recipients simply open the link, enter the password you shared with them, and access the files. The password is the only gate between them and your audio, so make sure you share it through a channel your recipient will actually see.
Yes. For email transfers, your Transfers panel shows a downloaded status next to each recipient once they complete the download, and you can hover to see the exact date and time. For link transfers, you get one confirmation email the first time the transfer is fully downloaded. If you want more granular visibility, you can also enable download tracking before sending, which prompts recipients to verify their email address and sends you a notification each time someone downloads.
