When you add your files in the WeTransfer upload window, you'll find a password field in the transfer options before you hit send. Type in your chosen password, finish uploading, and anyone who opens the link will be prompted to enter it before they can access anything. The password is case-sensitive and can be any combination of characters you like.
No. WeTransfer never includes the password in the transfer notification email it sends to recipients. You share it separately, through whatever channel you already use with that person, whether that's Slack, a phone call, or a quick message. That separation is intentional and keeps the link useless to anyone who intercepts it without the password.
Yes. Open the transfer in your Transfers panel, select the password option, and you can add one if there isn't one yet, change it, or remove it entirely. The change takes effect immediately, so if you need to rotate credentials mid-campaign or open up access after an embargo lifts, you can do that without re-uploading or sending a new link.
Yes. On top of a password, you can enable restricted access on any transfer, which limits downloads to a specific list of email addresses you define.
