WeTransfer gives engineers and technical teams a fast, browser-based way to move large files without installing anything. Upload CAD drawings, simulation outputs, 3D models, technical PDFs, and ZIP archives, then share a download link or deliver straight to a colleague's or client's inbox. The person on the receiving end can download everything without creating an account.
The simplest, free way to share
Engineering work generates files that are simply too large and too precise for email attachments, and the last thing anyone needs is a compressed or re-encoded version arriving on the other end. WeTransfer sends every file exactly as uploaded, preserving the original quality whether it's a DWG drawing, a BIM model, a finite element analysis output, or a high-resolution site scan. Each transfer produces a unique download link you can paste into a project management tool, a procurement email, or a Teams chat, and there is no cap on how many people can open that link. For files that need to stay private, a password or an email-based access restriction keeps them away from anyone who should not see them, both available on a free account. When you need transfers to stay live beyond the default window, want to recover a link that has already lapsed, or prefer vendors and clients to arrive on a page with your company name and domain, WeTransfer Ultimate is the natural next step.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
WeTransfer handles any file type without modification, so CAD files (DWG, DXF), BIM models, FEA outputs, point cloud data, technical PDFs, 3D and CAD formats, ZIP archives, and Office documents all transfer without compression or quality loss. There is no re-encoding, so what arrives at the other end is identical to what you uploaded. If your workflow produces proprietary formats or unusually large exports, those travel just as reliably as anything else.
No account is needed to download. Recipients click the download link or the button in the notification email, and their files are ready straight away. This matters when you're working with external contractors, certification bodies, or procurement teams who are unlikely to sign up for a new service just to receive a drawing pack. Sending does require a free WeTransfer account, but that takes only a moment to set up.
Yes. WeTransfer supports folder uploads, and recipients receive the files with the original folder structure intact, so a directory of numbered drawings, specifications, and supporting notes arrives exactly as organised on your machine. For large deliverable sets, this avoids the manual work of zipping everything yourself and keeps file naming conventions and nested folders in place on the receiving end.
Two options are available on a free account. A password locks the transfer so only recipients who know it can access the files, and you share that password separately through a secure channel. Restricted access goes further, limiting downloads to specific email addresses you name, with each person required to verify their address before anything downloads. Both options work on link transfers, so you can still distribute a single URL across a project team while controlling exactly who can use it.
From your Transfers panel you can see whether each transfer has been downloaded and, for email transfers, a checkmark appears next to each recipient's address once they download, with the exact date and time available on hover. If you need more granular tracking, enabling tracked downloads prompts recipients to verify their email before accessing files, and you receive a notification each time someone downloads. This is useful when you need a record that a subcontractor or client received a specific revision of a document.
