Files arrive exactly as uploaded, with no compression or reformatting.
No account is needed to download or preview a transfer. A student just clicks the download link or the button in the notification email and their files are ready. This removes any sign-up friction for younger students or those who simply need to grab a file quickly. Sending transfers does require a free account, so teachers and staff creating transfers will need to sign up.
Yes. The file request feature lets you create a link where anyone can upload files directly to you, which works well for collecting assignments or project materials without sharing your email address publicly. When a student uploads via your request link, you get an email notification and the files appear in your account. Note that uploading to a request requires a free WeTransfer account, so students submitting work will need to sign up.
You can add a password to any transfer before sending it, and only people who know the password can access the files. For tighter control, restricted access lets you specify a list of email addresses, so only those recipients can open the download. Both options are available on a free account and can be set or changed after a transfer has already been sent.
The free plan allows up to 10 transfers and up to 3 GB of total uploads per rolling 30-day window, and transfer links expire after 3 days. That covers a lot of everyday classroom sharing. If you are a freelance educator, a department regularly sending large media projects, or someone who needs transfers to stay available beyond 3 days, upgrading to Ultimate removes transfer size limits, gives you custom or indefinite expiry, lets you recover expired transfers, and adds branded pages and emails so your communications look professional.
