WeTransfer accepts any file type, so you can send CSVs, JSON files, XML exports, SQL dumps, ZIP archives, Excel workbooks, database backups, plain text files, and more. There is no restriction on format, and files are delivered exactly as uploaded with no modification to the data inside.
You have two options on a free account. You can lock a transfer with a password and share that separately with your intended recipients, or you can restrict access to a specific list of email addresses so only those people can open the download. Both controls are available when setting up a transfer, and you can update them after sending from your transfers panel.
No. WeTransfer delivers every file exactly as it was uploaded, with no re-encoding, reformatting, or data loss. When multiple files are packaged into a zip for download, the compression is lossless, so nothing inside your files changes.
No account is needed to download. Your recipient just opens the link or clicks through from the notification email and downloads straight away. An account is only required on the sending side.
On a free account you can send up to 3 GB per transfer, with up to 10 transfers and 3 GB total per rolling 30-day window, and download links stay active for up to 3 days. If you regularly send large database exports or archives, need transfers to stay available indefinitely, want to recover a link after it has expired, or prefer to deliver files under your own brand and domain, WeTransfer Ultimate removes the transfer size cap, lets you set any expiry including never, and adds expired transfer recovery along with per-transfer and page-level branding.
