WeTransfer handles any file type without modification, so PDFs, Excel workbooks, Word documents, PowerPoint decks, ZIP archives, and scanned image files all transfer exactly as you uploaded them. There is no re-encoding or compression that alters the content, which matters when you are sharing signed engagement letters, working papers, or formatted reports that need to look identical on the other end.
No account is needed on the receiving end. Your client clicks the download link or the button in the notification email and gets their files straight away. That removes any onboarding friction when you are delivering to a client contact who has never used the service before.
You have two options, both available on a free account. You can lock the transfer with a password and share that separately through a secure channel, so only someone with both the link and the password can download. Alternatively, you can restrict access to one or more specific email addresses, meaning anyone else who opens the link will be turned away even if they have the URL.
Yes. For email transfers, WeTransfer shows a checkmark next to each recipient's address once they have downloaded, and you can hover to see the exact date and time. For link transfers you can enable download tracking before sending, which notifies you each time the transfer is accessed. Both options are available on all plans.
The free plan allows up to 3 GB per transfer and up to 10 transfers per rolling 30-day window, with links expiring after a maximum of 3 days and no way to recover them once they expire. That covers most day-to-day deliveries, but if you routinely send large data exports, need transfers to stay live for weeks, want to recover a link after it has expired, or prefer clients to reach a page with your firm's own branding and custom domain, WeTransfer Ultimate is the plan to look at.
