Sending a video to a client or collaborator and getting no response leaves you guessing. WeTransfer shows you when your video has been previewed or downloaded, and by whom, so you always know where things stand before reaching out.
Keep count of who views your transfer
When video is your deliverable, a silent inbox tells you nothing useful. WeTransfer lets recipients watch your video directly in the browser before downloading, and you can enable download tracking to tie every access event to a verified email address, giving you a named, timestamped record of who engaged with your transfer. That preview activity registers as its own engagement signal, so you get visibility even when someone watches without saving the file. For client deliveries or sensitive edits going to a specific audience, Restricted downloads let you specify exactly which email addresses can open the transfer, automatically blocking everyone else. Your video files are sent without any re-encoding or resolution loss, so the footage your client watches is identical to what you uploaded.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Yes. WeTransfer lets recipients preview supported video formats directly in the browser, and that preview activity is separate from a full download. When you enable tracked downloads, anyone who opens your transfer link has to verify their email address first, so you get a record of who engaged with your video even if they never hit download.
When you're setting up a transfer, look for the Access Control option in the transfer settings panel. Select Tracked downloads and WeTransfer will require email verification from anyone who opens your link, then log each access with a name, email address, and timestamp. You can review the full activity from your Transfers panel after sending.
Tracked downloads let anyone with the link watch or download your video after verifying their email, and you receive a notification each time someone does. Restricted downloads go further: only the specific email addresses on your access list can get through, so anyone outside that list is blocked entirely. Tracked is useful for broad distribution where you want visibility; Restricted is better for confidential edits or client-only deliveries.
No. WeTransfer sends files without any re-encoding, compression, or resolution changes, including 4K footage. The file your recipient downloads is bit-for-bit identical to what you uploaded, so colour grading, frame rate, and audio all remain exactly as you intended.
Yes, password protection and download tracking work independently and can both be applied to the same transfer. Add a password in the transfer settings before sending, then share it with your intended recipients outside of WeTransfer. Even with tracking enabled, anyone without the password cannot access the files at all. Password protection is available on all plans.
