Every transfer you send through WeTransfer includes a running preview count, visible the moment your document goes out. Turn on access control and that count becomes a named log, showing exactly which recipient opened your file and when.
Keep count of who views your transfer
Retail moves fast, and knowing whether a buyer, supplier, or store manager has actually read what you sent changes how you follow up. WeTransfer attaches a preview count to every transfer automatically, giving you a baseline read on engagement without touching any settings. When you need more than a number, enabling tracked or restricted access turns that count into a per-recipient record: names, timestamps, and a clear picture of who has engaged with your documents. Recipients can open PDFs, Word files, spreadsheets, and presentations directly in the browser before downloading, so each preview registers as a genuine signal. Download tracking is also available separately, letting you log who saved a copy of your document alongside who simply viewed it.

All your questions answered.
Yes. Every transfer includes a preview count that updates automatically, so you can see at a glance whether your document has been opened. For a more detailed view, enabling access control (tracked or restricted mode) produces a per-recipient log showing each person's name and the time they previewed the file.
Basic view counts are on by default for every transfer, no configuration required. If you want to see who specifically viewed your document rather than just how many times, you need to enable access control before sending. That setting is found in your transfer options when creating a new transfer.
Recipients can preview PDFs, Word documents (DOC and DOCX), Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and plain text files directly in WeTransfer without downloading anything. This covers most common retail formats, from product catalogues and order forms to planograms and supplier contracts. Each preview counts toward your view tracking.
They are separate. View tracking records when someone opens the in-browser preview of your document, while download tracking logs when someone saves the file to their device. Download tracking is available on all plans but must be explicitly enabled before you send. For retail teams sharing time-sensitive materials, running both gives you the fullest picture of engagement.
Yes. Restricted access lets you specify the exact email addresses that are allowed to open a transfer. Anyone outside that list is blocked. This is useful for documents like wholesale pricing sheets or confidential supplier agreements where you want tight control over who sees the contents. Restricted access also gives you the per-recipient view log, so you know exactly who accessed the file and when.
