When you share diagnostic images or clinical visuals with colleagues, referral partners, or patients, knowing whether they were actually viewed matters. WeTransfer shows you who previewed or downloaded each image transfer, tied to a verified email address, so you can follow up with the right information at the right time.
Keep count of who views your transfer
Healthcare professionals sharing medical images, scans, or visual case materials need more than a delivery receipt. WeTransfer lets recipients view supported image formats, including JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and HEIC, directly in the browser before downloading, and that preview activity appears in your Transfers panel as a distinct engagement signal alongside any download events. Enabling download tracking links every access to a verified email address and logs it with a timestamp, so you know exactly who engaged with your images and when. For images intended only for specific clinicians, departments, or external partners, you can restrict access to a named list of email addresses, so anyone outside that list cannot reach the files at all. Images are delivered exactly as uploaded, with no re-encoding or quality loss, which matters when diagnostic accuracy depends on visual fidelity.

All your questions answered.
Yes. When recipients open an image transfer in their browser, that preview registers as its own activity in your Transfers panel, separate from a full download event. This means you can tell whether a radiologist, specialist, or referring clinician has viewed the image even if they never downloaded it. Preview is supported for common medical image formats including JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and HEIC.
When setting up a transfer, enable Restricted downloads and enter the email addresses of the people who should have access, such as specific clinicians, a department inbox, or an external partner. Anyone who opens the link will need to verify their email address, and access is only granted if it matches your list. You can update the access list after sending from the transfer details page.
For each transfer with tracking enabled, your Transfers panel shows a timestamped record of who previewed or downloaded the images, tied to their verified email address. For email transfers, you can see a checkmark against each recipient's address and hover to see the exact time of download. This gives healthcare senders a named, auditable log of engagement for every image they share.
Yes, password protection and access tracking can be used together on the same transfer. You can set a password before sending so that only recipients who know it can open the files, and enable download tracking or restricted access on top of that for a second layer of control. The password is not included in the notification email, so you share it with recipients through a separate channel.
