Keep count of who views your transfer

When you share medical imaging files, patient education materials, or clinical documentation, knowing who has actually viewed them matters. WeTransfer gives every sender a live preview count on each transfer, so you can see engagement at a glance without doing anything special. For more granular visibility, switching to tracked or restricted access mode shows you exactly which recipients opened your images and the timestamp for each view. Recipients can preview images directly in the browser before downloading, and you can also choose to enable download tracking to see who saved the files. All transfers are encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in EU data centers, and covered by GDPR-compliant data processing agreements, giving healthcare teams a secure foundation for sharing sensitive visual content.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes. Every transfer automatically shows a preview count, so you always know how many times your images have been opened. If you need per-recipient detail, enabling access control (tracked or restricted mode) gives you a log of exactly who previewed your images and when, which is useful for confirming that the right clinical staff or stakeholders have seen the files.

View tracking records how many times a transfer has been previewed in the browser, and in tracked or restricted mode it shows you which recipient opened it and when. Download tracking is a separate setting you enable explicitly, and it records who actually saved the image files to their device. For healthcare teams, using both together gives you a complete picture of who engaged with the content.

No. Anyone with the transfer link can preview and download images without creating a WeTransfer account. This makes it straightforward to share files with external partners, referring clinicians, or patients without asking them to sign up for anything.

When creating a transfer, you can enable restricted access and specify a list of email addresses. Only recipients on that list will be able to open the files, and any attempt to access the transfer from an unrecognized address will be blocked. This is particularly useful in healthcare settings where controlling who can see clinical or diagnostic imagery is a compliance consideration.

WeTransfer encrypts all files in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, and stores data in EU data centers. The platform is ISO 27001 certified, GDPR-compliant, and offers data processing agreements for business plans. Transfers on Ultimate and above also benefit from automatic malware scanning, adding an extra layer of protection before anyone in your team or organization downloads an image.
