Track who's viewed your shared healthcare files

Sending patient reports, referrals, or clinical materials means knowing they reached the right eyes. WeTransfer gives you a preview count on every transfer by default, and when you need a full audit trail, access control shows you each recipient's viewing activity by name and timestamp.

Keep count of who views your transfer

Healthcare professionals need more than a sent confirmation. WeTransfer automatically records how many times a transfer has been previewed, giving you immediate signal on whether a document has been opened without any setup on your end. When accountability matters, enabling access control shifts you from a simple count to a per-recipient log, so you can see exactly who viewed your files and when. You can also turn on download tracking separately to confirm who saved a copy for their records. Files arrive in their original quality, encrypted in transit and at rest, with storage in EU data centers and ISO 27001 certification backing every transfer.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes. Every transfer automatically shows a preview count in your account, no configuration needed. For a detailed record, enabling access control (tracked or restricted mode) gives you a per-recipient log showing who previewed your document and at what time, which is useful for clinical correspondence, referral packs, and audit trails.

Tracked mode lets anyone with the link view the transfer, but you receive a per-recipient log of who previewed and when. Restricted mode goes a step further: only the specific email addresses you list can access the files at all, and you still get the same per-recipient log. For sensitive healthcare materials, restricted mode gives you both access control and a clear viewing record.

Preview activity does not trigger an email notification, but the viewing record is always there in your transfer list when you check it. If you also enable download tracking, you will receive a notification when a recipient downloads the file, which can serve as a practical confirmation of receipt for clinical documents.

WeTransfer encrypts files in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stores data in EU data centers, and is ISO 27001 certified. The platform is GDPR-compliant, and data processing agreements are available for business plans. Ultimate and above plans also include automatic malware scanning on every transfer.

Recipients can preview PDFs, Word documents, images (including JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and HEIC), MP4 and MOV video files, MP3 and WAV audio, and spreadsheets directly in the browser before downloading. This is useful for clinical images, lab reports in PDF, and presentation slides, letting recipients confirm they have the right file before saving a copy.
