WeTransfer shows you exactly how your documents are being received. Every transfer displays a preview count from the moment it's sent, and you can enable per-recipient tracking to see who opened your files and when.
Keep count of who views your transfer
For government organisations and NGOs, knowing whether a document has actually been seen can matter as much as sending it. WeTransfer gives every sender a live preview count on each transfer automatically, with no configuration needed. When you need more detail, enabling access control lets you see a per-recipient log showing who previewed your documents and at what time. Recipients can open and review PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, and presentations directly in the browser before downloading, so engagement happens even without a full download. Files are encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in EU data centers, and WeTransfer is GDPR-compliant, making it a practical fit for public sector and nonprofit document workflows.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Yes. Every transfer shows a preview count so you can see how many times your document was opened. If you want per-recipient detail, enable access control (tracked or restricted mode) when sending, and WeTransfer will log exactly who previewed the file and when. This works for PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, and other supported formats.
Basic preview counts are on by default for every transfer, so you'll always see how many times a document was opened without touching any settings. Per-recipient tracking requires you to enable access control before sending. Once it's on, you get a named log of who viewed your document and the exact time they did so.
It's built with that in mind. Files are encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stored in EU data centers, and WeTransfer is ISO 27001 certified and GDPR-compliant. Business plans include data processing agreements, and you can restrict document access to specific email addresses so only named recipients can open what you've sent.
View tracking (preview counts and per-recipient logs) shows you when someone opened and read a document in the browser. Download tracking is separate and must be explicitly turned on by the sender; it records who downloaded the file and when. For government and NGO teams monitoring engagement on reports or proposals, you can enable both at once.
No account is needed to receive files. Recipients can open the link, preview supported document types including PDFs, Word files, and spreadsheets directly in the browser, and download what they need without signing up. A free WeTransfer account is only required if someone wants to send files themselves.
