Know who's looking at your shared folders

When you send folders through WeTransfer, your transfer shows a running preview count from the start. Turn on access control and that count becomes a full per-recipient log, with names and timestamps for every view.

Keep count of who views your transfer

Uploading a folder and sharing it as a single transfer makes it easy to keep deliveries organized, and WeTransfer gives you visibility into what happens after you hit send. A preview count appears on every transfer automatically, so you can tell at a glance whether your folder has been opened. For client work, proposals, or anything time-sensitive, enabling tracked or restricted access upgrades that count into a detailed view log showing exactly who looked and when. If you also want to know who saved copies, download tracking is a separate option you can switch on for any transfer. Everything is collected in your transfer list, so you have a clear record without digging through inboxes or chasing replies.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes. When you upload and send a folder as a transfer, WeTransfer records a preview count just like any other transfer. You can see how many times the transfer has been opened directly from your account, with no setup needed. Folder structure is preserved for recipients, who can browse and selectively download files once they open the transfer.

Enable access control on your transfer before you send it, either in tracked mode or restricted mode. Once that is on, WeTransfer logs each recipient who previews the folder along with the time they opened it. You can review that breakdown in your transfer list at any point after sending.

Preview activity does not trigger an email notification. To check whether your folder has been viewed, open your transfer list and look at the view count or, if you enabled access control, the per-recipient log. Download notifications work differently: if you have download tracking switched on, you will see who downloaded files and when.

Yes. Restricted access lets you specify which email addresses can open the transfer, so only the people you name can view or download the files inside. Anyone who tries to open the link without a matching address will be blocked. This works on all plans and is set per transfer before you send.

They are separate. The preview count shows how many times the transfer page was opened and the files were viewed in-browser. Download tracking, which you enable manually, shows who actually saved copies of the files and when. For folder deliveries where clients need to grab specific files, running both gives you the most complete picture of engagement.
