Enabling download tracking links each event to a verified email address and a precise timestamp.
Before clicking Transfer, open the transfer settings panel and enable the download tracking option. Once active, every download is logged against the recipient's verified email address and the exact date and time of access. You can review this record at any time from the transfer details page in your Transfers panel. Tracking must be switched on by the sender before the transfer is sent; it cannot be added retroactively.
Yes. WeTransfer's restricted access feature lets you specify a list of email addresses that are permitted to open a transfer. Anyone who opens the link but is not on that list will be blocked from accessing the files. This is particularly useful for distributing term sheets, financial models, or due diligence materials to a named group, keeping sensitive content away from unintended recipients even if the link is forwarded.
Yes. With download tracking enabled, each access event is recorded separately, so you get a distinct entry per recipient rather than an aggregate count. For an email transfer you can also see a per-recipient status in your Transfers panel, showing which addresses have downloaded and which have not. This gives finance professionals a clear picture of engagement across a distribution list without needing to follow up with everyone individually.
WeTransfer is based in the EU and is fully GDPR-compliant. Files uploaded from a European IP address are stored on AWS servers in Ireland, encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256. The service is ISO 27001 certified, and Data Processing Agreements are available for business plan customers who need them for compliance purposes. WeTransfer does not use your files to train AI, and does not sell or share file contents with third parties.
