See exactly who viewed your shared engineering files

WeTransfer logs a preview count on every transfer the moment it is shared. For engineering teams sending CAD drawings, technical specs, or project proposals, enabling access control gives you a timestamped record of each recipient who opened your files, so you always know where things stand before a follow-up call.

Send your first transfer

Keep count of who views your transfer

When you send technical documentation, design files, or bid packages to clients or contractors, knowing whether they have actually looked is as important as the send itself. WeTransfer records preview activity on every transfer automatically, giving you a live engagement signal with no configuration required. For detailed accountability, switching a transfer to tracked or restricted mode produces a named log showing each recipient alongside the time they opened it. You can also enable download tracking independently to see who saved a local copy of your drawings or specifications. Because recipients can preview engineering files directly in the browser without downloading, you get useful engagement data even when no one pulls the file down.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Every transfer in your WeTransfer account shows a running preview count by default, no setup needed. If you want a recipient-by-recipient breakdown, enable access control (tracked or restricted mode) before sending, and you will get a log showing each person's name and the exact time they previewed your files.

Yes. View tracking applies to any transfer you send, regardless of file type. Recipients can preview supported formats such as PDFs, images, and video directly in the browser, and those preview events are recorded. For file types that do not render in the browser, WeTransfer still counts any time the transfer link is opened.

View tracking records when someone opens and previews your transfer link, while download tracking records when someone actually saves the files to their device. For engineering workflows, the combination is useful: a client may preview a proposal PDF without downloading it, and knowing that distinction helps you judge how deeply they have engaged with your submission.

Yes. Restricted access lets you specify one or more email addresses, and only those recipients can open the transfer. Anyone else who gets hold of the link will be blocked. This is available on all plans and is particularly useful when sharing confidential schematics, tender documents, or NDA-covered project materials.

Preview events do not trigger email notifications. You can check the preview count and, if access control is enabled, the per-recipient log directly from your transfer list in your WeTransfer account. If you need email alerts, you can turn on download tracking, which does notify you when a recipient downloads your files.
