Keep count of who views your transfer

Sharing spreadsheets, CSVs, or other data files often means not knowing whether anyone has actually looked at them. WeTransfer surfaces view activity on every transfer automatically, giving you a baseline read on engagement without any configuration. When a total count is not enough, switching a transfer to tracked or restricted mode adds a per-recipient log so you can see each person who previewed your files alongside a precise timestamp. Recipients can preview CSVs, Excel files, and other supported formats directly in the browser, meaning you get signal on real engagement rather than just link clicks. Download tracking is available separately if you also want to know who saved a local copy.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Every transfer automatically records a preview count, which you can see any time from your transfer list. No setup is needed for this basic view count, and it updates each time a recipient opens your transfer. For deeper insight, enabling access control on a transfer switches you to a per-recipient log showing names and timestamps.

Both modes give you a per-recipient breakdown of who previewed your data files and when. Restricted mode goes a step further by limiting access to a specific list of email addresses, so only the people you name can open the transfer at all. Tracked mode logs viewer activity without limiting who can follow the link.

Previews do not trigger email notifications, but the view count in your transfer list updates in real time. If you also enable download tracking, you will receive a notification when a recipient saves a copy of your data files. For the most complete picture, use both view tracking and download tracking together.

Yes. Recipients can preview CSV, XLS, and XLSX files directly in WeTransfer without downloading anything first. This means your preview count reflects genuine engagement with your data, not just someone who clicked the link and moved on. Recipients can also comment on files and mark favorites while previewing.

On a free account, transfers expire after a maximum of three days. On an Ultimate plan, you can set a custom expiry date or leave a transfer open indefinitely so it never expires unless you delete it. Ultimate users can also recover transfers that have already expired, including ones that expired before upgrading.
