Know who's looked at your construction files

WeTransfer shows a preview count on every transfer the moment it's live. When a project bid, site report, or set of drawings needs closer tracking, you can see a named, timestamped record of who opened your files and when.

Keep count of who views your transfer

Construction projects move fast, and knowing whether a subcontractor, client, or site manager has actually looked at what you sent can save a lot of unnecessary back-and-forth. WeTransfer records a preview count on every transfer automatically, giving you a live read on engagement without any configuration. When you need more than a total number, enabling access control on a transfer surfaces a per-recipient log so you can see exactly who viewed your files and at what time. You can also turn on download tracking separately to confirm who has saved a copy of your drawings, specifications, or schedules. Everything is organized in your transfer list, so the full picture is there whenever you need to follow up or confirm receipt.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes. Every WeTransfer transfer shows a preview count by default, so you can always see how many times your files have been opened. To see a per-recipient breakdown, including names and timestamps, enable access control (tracked or restricted mode) on the transfer before sending. This works for any file type, including PDFs, CAD exports, and image files.

WeTransfer does not send email notifications for previews, but your transfer list always shows the current preview count, and access control mode gives you a per-recipient log you can check at any time. For download activity, you can enable download tracking separately, which records who downloaded your files and when.

Yes. Restricted access lets you lock a transfer to one or more specific email addresses, so only those recipients can open it. This is useful for tender submissions, confidential site assessments, or any document you only want certain people to view. It is available on all plans and must be enabled by the sender before sharing the link.

Recipients can preview PDFs, JPEGs, PNGs, TIFFs, MP4s, and common Office formats directly in the browser without downloading. This covers a lot of typical construction deliverables: PDF drawings, scanned site photos, and specification documents. Native CAD formats like DWG are not previewable in-browser, but they transfer in full original quality and recipients can download them directly.

On a free account, transfers expire after a maximum of three days. On Ultimate and above, you can set a custom expiry date or choose no expiry at all, so a link stays live for the full duration of a project. Ultimate subscribers can also recover transfers that have already expired, which is handy if a client needs to revisit drawings or documents from an earlier project phase.
