Know who's viewing your shared 3D files

Every transfer you send through WeTransfer comes with a live preview count, visible the moment your files go out. When you need to know which client or collaborator actually opened your 3D work, access control gives you a named, timestamped log of every view.

Keep count of who views your transfer

Sharing 3D and CAD files with clients often means waiting and wondering whether anyone has looked at them yet. WeTransfer gives you a preview count on every transfer by default, so a basic read on engagement is always there without any setup. When you need more than a total, switching a transfer to tracked or restricted access mode adds a per-recipient breakdown, showing exactly who previewed your files and when. You can also turn on download tracking separately if you want to know who saved a local copy. Everything is collected in your transfer list, alongside your other transfers, so following up on a 3D delivery feels less like guesswork.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes. Every transfer automatically records a preview count, so you can see at a glance how many times your 3D files have been opened. If you need a per-recipient breakdown showing who previewed them and when, you can enable tracked or restricted access mode on the transfer before sending.

Both modes give you a per-recipient log of who previewed your transfer and at what time. Restricted access goes a step further by limiting who can open the files at all, requiring recipients to match a specific email address or list you define. Tracked access leaves the transfer open to anyone with the link but still records individual view activity.

WeTransfer's in-browser preview supports a wide range of formats, but native 3D or CAD file types such as OBJ, STL, or FBX are not currently previewable in the browser. Recipients can still download them in full original quality without any compression or format conversion.

Previews don't trigger email notifications, but the view data is always recorded in your transfer list. For a full picture of engagement on a delivery, you can check the transfer's activity at any point, and if you've also enabled download tracking, you'll see a separate record of who downloaded the files.

On a free account, transfers expire after a maximum of 3 days. On WeTransfer Ultimate and above, you can set a custom expiry date or leave transfers open indefinitely so clients can come back to your files whenever they need to. Ultimate also lets you recover transfers that have already expired, including ones that expired before you upgraded.
