Sharing files for a proposal, client delivery, or time-sensitive review means nothing if you have no idea whether anyone looked at them. WeTransfer shows you who accessed your transfer, when they did it, and whether they previewed or downloaded, all from your Transfers panel.
Keep count of who views your transfer
When you share files with a client or collaborator, knowing that the upload succeeded is only half the picture. WeTransfer's download tracking connects every access event to a verified email address, giving you a clear, named record of who opened your transfer and at what time. You can also enable Restricted downloads before sending, which limits access to a specific list of email addresses so that only approved recipients can reach your files at all. Recipients can preview images, video, audio, and PDFs directly in the browser before deciding what to download, and each of those preview events counts as a meaningful engagement signal you can act on. Your files arrive exactly as you sent them, with no compression, re-encoding, or quality loss on any file type.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Enable download tracking before you send, and WeTransfer will log every access event with the recipient's verified email address, the date, and the exact time. You can review the full activity record for any transfer directly from your Transfers panel. For email transfers, a checkmark appears next to each recipient's address once they download, and hovering over it shows the precise timestamp.
Tracked downloads let anyone with the link access your files, but they must verify their email address first, and you receive a notification with their name and timestamp each time someone opens it. Restricted downloads go further, limiting access to a specific list of email addresses you define, so anyone not on that list cannot open the transfer at all. Both options are available on all plans and can be set in the transfer settings panel before you send.
Yes. Recipients can view images, video, audio, and PDFs directly in their browser without downloading anything first. When you have Tracked downloads enabled, that preview activity still requires email verification, so you get a named record even from people who browse the transfer without saving files locally. Recipients can also leave comments on individual files and mark favorites during the preview.
Download tracking and Restricted downloads are available on all WeTransfer plans, including the free plan. On a free account, email transfers show a per-recipient download status with timestamps. For more advanced access control, such as detailed activity logs and per-transfer branding on your download page, an Ultimate plan adds those capabilities alongside features like custom expiry and expired transfer recovery.
Yes, password protection and download tracking work independently and can both be active on the same transfer. Adding a password means recipients need the correct code before they can even reach the files, while tracking then logs who verified their email and accessed the download. The password is not included in any notification email WeTransfer sends, so you share it with recipients through your own channel.
