Control when your telecom file links expire

In telecommunications, shared files often carry network diagrams, configuration data, or contract documentation that should only be reachable for a defined window. WeTransfer lets you set a precise closing date on any transfer before it leaves your hands, and the download link deactivates on its own the moment that deadline arrives.

Transfer expiration is in your hands

Telecom teams regularly hand off files to vendors, partners, regulators, and field engineers where access needs a hard stop. WeTransfer gives you direct control over how long a shared link stays active, so you decide the window and the link closes itself when time is up, with no manual follow-up needed. Every file travels without compression or re-encoding, meaning technical drawings, spectrum reports, network topology exports, large ZIP archives, and presentation decks arrive exactly as they were prepared. You can layer additional controls on top of expiry, including password protection for sensitive handoffs or a restricted access list tied to specific verified email addresses, which is useful when documents are destined for named contacts only. Files are encrypted both in transit and at rest, stored on EU servers, and WeTransfer is GDPR-compliant, giving telecom organisations a practical foundation for demonstrable data handling.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

When you add your files in the transfer window, click the ellipsis icon or the expiry dropdown before hitting Transfer, then choose your closing date. Once you send, the download link deactivates automatically when that date is reached, with no action needed on your part. On the Free and Starter plans, transfers expire after a maximum of 3 days. Ultimate and above let you pick any duration or keep the link open indefinitely.

Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer, and edit the expiration date field using the calendar picker. The change takes effect immediately, but WeTransfer does not notify recipients automatically, so let them know directly if the window shifts. This is useful when a regulatory submission deadline moves or a vendor needs a short extension.

You can add a password to any transfer so that only recipients who have it can open the link, which suits confidential vendor agreements or internal configuration documents. Alternatively, restricted access lets you tie a transfer to a specific list of verified email addresses, meaning only named contacts such as a procurement officer or a licensed engineer can download. Both options work independently or together with expiry, giving you layered control over sensitive telecom materials.

WeTransfer handles any file type without compression or quality loss, so network topology exports, CAD drawings, spectrum analysis PDFs, large ZIP archives of configuration backups, video walkthroughs, Office documents, and presentation decks all arrive exactly as prepared. Recipients can also preview supported formats, including PDFs, images, and video, directly in the browser before downloading, which speeds up review cycles across distributed field and office teams.

Recovery is available on Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans. Files under 256 MB can be recovered for up to one year after expiry, and files over 256 MB for up to 90 days, provided the Recoverable option was enabled when the transfer was created. This is helpful when a regulator or partner comes back to a link after the window has closed. Free and Starter users cannot recover expired transfers, so the files would need to be re-uploaded.
