Spreadsheets with a built-in expiry date

Upload your spreadsheets, set how long the download link stays open, and share it. Access closes automatically when your window ends, so sensitive data doesn't sit exposed long after it's been used.

Transfer expiration is in your hands

Sharing spreadsheets often means handing over data that has a shelf life — forecasts, budgets, pricing sheets, or submissions that should stop circulating once a deadline passes. WeTransfer lets you attach an expiry to any transfer upfront, so the link goes dark on schedule without any manual cleanup on your end. Recipients can open and review the spreadsheet in their browser before deciding whether to download it, which is useful when you want them to confirm the right version without keeping a local copy indefinitely. For tighter handoffs, you can layer on password protection or lock access to a specific list of email addresses, keeping the file reachable only to the right people for exactly the right amount of time. Files arrive intact, with no changes to formatting, formulas, or file size.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

On the Free plan, transfer links are available for up to 3 days from the moment you send them. After that, the files are permanently removed from WeTransfer's servers. If you need a longer or custom window for your spreadsheets, upgrading to Ultimate lets you set any duration or keep the link open indefinitely.

Yes. You can adjust the expiry date of any active transfer from your Transfers panel after sending. Find the transfer, open its settings, and pick a new date from the calendar. The change takes effect immediately, though your recipients won't be notified automatically, so it's worth dropping them a message if the deadline shifts.

Once a transfer expires, the files are permanently deleted from WeTransfer's servers and the download link stops working. If you're on Ultimate, Teams, or Enterprise, you can recover expired transfers within a set window, depending on file size. Free and Starter users can't recover files once they've expired, so it's worth saving a local copy before the deadline.

Yes. WeTransfer's restricted access option lets you tie a transfer to a list of specific email addresses, so only those people can open the link. Anyone else who lands on it won't be able to download. You can combine this with an expiry date for transfers where both timing and audience matter, like sending a pricing sheet to a shortlisted client before a proposal closes.

WeTransfer works with any file type, including XLS, XLSX, CSV, ODS, and any other spreadsheet format you use. Files are sent exactly as uploaded, with no changes to formulas, formatting, or macros. If you're sending a mix of spreadsheets and supporting documents, you can bundle them into a folder or ZIP and transfer everything together.
