When you add your files in the transfer window, look for the expiry or 'Expires in' option before clicking Transfer. Free accounts cap transfers at 3 days, while an Ultimate plan lets you pick any duration or keep the link open indefinitely. For real estate handoffs where timing matters, such as an offer deadline or an exchange window, choosing a specific expiry means the link goes offline on its own the moment that date passes.
Yes. Open your Transfers panel, click the relevant transfer, and adjust the expiration date from there. The change takes effect immediately, which is useful if a completion date shifts or a client needs a short extension. Just let your recipient know directly, as WeTransfer does not send them an automatic notification when you update the expiry.
Yes, using the Restricted downloads option available on all plans. When enabled, recipients must verify their email address and only those on your specified access list can open the files. This is particularly useful in real estate when a document is intended for one party in a transaction and you want to be certain no one outside that list can access it, even if the link is forwarded.
WeTransfer handles any file type, including PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, high-resolution property photos, video walkthroughs, CAD or floor plan files, and ZIP archives of supporting documents. Files are sent without any compression or re-encoding, so rendered images, scanned contracts, and video tours arrive exactly as you saved them.
Recovery is available on Ultimate and above plans. When the Recoverable option is enabled on a transfer, expired links can be retrieved within a set window after expiry, depending on file size. Free and Starter plan transfers cannot be recovered once expired, so if a solicitor or buyer misses the window, the files would need to be re-uploaded and resent. For time-sensitive real estate transactions, an Ultimate plan gives you the safety net of being able to restore access if circumstances change.
