When you hand off a shoot, you should decide how long that download link stays open. WeTransfer lets you build a closing date into every transfer, so galleries, rough cuts, and raw exports go offline exactly when you want them to, without any chasing or manual cleanup.
Transfer expiration is in your hands
Photographers and videographers share files at every stage of a project, from first selects to final deliverables, and not all of that work should stay accessible indefinitely. WeTransfer lets you attach an expiry to any transfer before you hit send, and the link deactivates on its own when that window closes. Every file travels without compression or re-encoding, so full-resolution RAW files, 4K video exports, layered Photoshop documents, and large ZIP archives arrive exactly as you exported them. You can also add a password to a delivery or lock it to specific email addresses, giving you tighter control over pre-release edits or exclusive client work. Recipients can preview images, video, and audio straight in the browser before downloading, which keeps approval rounds moving and helps clients grab only the files they actually need.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
When you add your files in the transfer window, look for the expiry or duration setting before clicking Transfer. Free plan transfers expire after a maximum of 3 days, while Ultimate and above let you choose any custom date or keep the transfer live indefinitely. The link deactivates automatically when the chosen date arrives, with nothing further required from you.
Yes. Open your Transfers panel, click the relevant transfer, and edit the expiration date from there. The change takes effect immediately, though WeTransfer won't automatically notify your recipient, so a quick message to your client is worth sending. This is handy if a shoot review runs long and you want to extend access, or if you need to pull a pre-release cut earlier than planned.
No. WeTransfer sends every file in its original state, with no re-encoding, no resolution loss, and no colour profile changes. RAW formats, 4K and higher video, high-resolution TIFFs, layered Photoshop and Lightroom files, and ZIP archives all reach recipients exactly as you packaged them. When multiple files are bundled together they travel inside a lossless ZIP, so nothing is touched in the process.
Yes. You can restrict access to a named list of email addresses, so only the people you specify can open the transfer while the link is still active. You can also add a password on top of that for an extra layer of protection. Both options are available on all plans and can be configured before sending or updated from your Transfers panel after the fact.
Once a link expires, recipients can no longer access the files through the original URL. On a Free or Starter plan the files cannot be recovered. On Ultimate and above, you can recover an expired transfer from your Transfers panel, even for transfers that expired before you upgraded, and resend the link to your client. This recovery window applies to transfers where the Recoverable option was enabled, which is turned on by default for new transfers.
