Share PDFs with a deadline baked in

Upload a PDF, choose how long the download link stays active, and share it with whoever needs it. The link closes on your terms, whether that's the morning a proposal deadline passes or months into an ongoing project.

Transfer expiration is in your hands

When you're sending contracts, briefs, reports, or any sensitive PDF, controlling how long the file stays reachable is just as important as getting it there. WeTransfer lets you attach an expiry window to any transfer before you send, so access closes automatically without you having to remember to delete anything. Recipients can open your PDF in their browser before downloading, which means they can check they have the right version without saving a copy they no longer need. Add a password on top of the expiry for transfers that require both a time limit and a gatekeeper, or restrict access to specific email addresses for even tighter control. Files arrive exactly as you uploaded them, no compression, no quality changes.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Free plan transfers are available for up to 3 days from the moment they are sent, then the files are permanently removed from WeTransfer's servers. That window suits quick review cycles or short-deadline handoffs. If you need a PDF to stay live for longer, or want to set a precise end date, an Ultimate plan lets you choose any duration or keep the transfer active indefinitely.

Yes. Before uploading, you can choose your expiry window in the transfer settings. On Ultimate you can also go back into your Transfers panel after sending and pick a new date from the calendar, and it takes effect immediately. This is useful when a proposal window shifts or a client needs a little more time to download the final document.

Yes, recipients can open a PDF directly in their browser before deciding whether to download it. This means a client can check it is the right document and the right version without saving a local copy. No WeTransfer account is needed on their end, just the link.

You can use both together on any plan. Add a password in the transfer options before clicking send, and the recipient needs it to access the files before the expiry date closes the link. For even tighter control, restricted access lets you limit downloads to a specific list of email addresses, so only named recipients can open the PDF during its active window.

Once a transfer expires, the download link stops working and the files are permanently deleted from WeTransfer's servers. On Ultimate, if you enabled the Recoverable option when sending, an expired transfer can be retrieved from your Transfers panel within a set recovery window. Free and Starter users cannot recover expired transfers, so if you need that safety net, it is worth considering an upgrade before sending anything time-sensitive.
