In finance and banking, documents shared beyond their intended window create compliance headaches. WeTransfer lets you decide exactly when a transfer link becomes inaccessible, so pitch books, term sheets, and due diligence files stop being reachable the moment they should.
Transfer expiration is in your hands
When you're coordinating time-sensitive handoffs across deal teams, counterparties, or regulators, controlling how long a file stays accessible is as important as controlling who sees it. WeTransfer lets you set a closing date on any transfer at the point of sending, and the link deactivates automatically when that moment arrives, with no manual follow-up required. Every document travels without compression, so PDFs, Excel models, PowerPoint decks, and ZIP archives arrive exactly as you saved them, with no formatting shifts or data loss. You can reinforce a time-limited transfer with password protection, or restrict access to a specific list of email addresses, ensuring that only named counterparties or internal reviewers can open the files while the link is still live. Recipients can also preview compatible document formats directly in the browser before downloading, making version checks quick without requiring a local save.

All your questions answered.
When you add your files in the WeTransfer transfer window, open the expiry options before clicking Send and pick the date or duration you want. On a free account, links stay active for up to 3 days. On Ultimate and above, you can set any custom end date or choose to keep the transfer available indefinitely, which suits longer due diligence or regulatory review cycles.
Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer, and update the expiration date from the settings there. The change takes effect immediately, so if a deal timeline shifts or a review period extends, you can adjust access without resending anything. Just notify your recipients directly, as WeTransfer does not automatically alert them to the change.
Yes. WeTransfer's restricted access option lets you specify which email addresses can open a transfer, so even if the link were forwarded, anyone not on your list is blocked. You can also add a password as a separate layer of protection, which is useful when distributing sensitive materials like term sheets or compliance reports to a defined group of recipients.
When a link expires, the files are permanently removed from WeTransfer's servers and the download URL stops working. This means confidential financial documents do not persist beyond the window you set. If you need to recover an expired transfer, that option is available on Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans, subject to applicable recovery windows.
WeTransfer encrypts files in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stores data on AWS infrastructure in EU data centers, and is ISO 27001 certified and GDPR-compliant. Data Processing Agreements are available for paid plan customers, which supports business compliance requirements common in regulated industries like finance and banking. WeTransfer does not view, sell, or share your files, and files are never used to train AI models.
