Before you send, open the expiry options in the transfer window and pick the date you want access to close. On a free account, transfers expire after a maximum of 3 days. With an Ultimate plan or above, you can set any duration you need, or keep the link active indefinitely, which is useful for long-running projects where access timing varies by phase.
Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer, and edit the expiration date directly from the transfer details page. The change takes effect immediately, so if a review period is extended or a submission deadline moves, you can adjust the window without re-uploading anything.
Yes. When setting up a transfer, you can restrict access to a specific list of email addresses, so only the people you name can open the files even if the link is shared more widely. You can also enable tracked downloads to see exactly who accessed the transfer and when, which is useful for audit trails on regulated engineering projects.
WeTransfer handles any file type, including CAD files, 3D and BIM models, large PDFs, ZIP archives, technical drawings, images, and Office documents. Files are sent without compression or quality loss, so annotations, layers, and metadata are preserved exactly as you saved them. You can also upload entire folders and recipients will receive them with the original folder structure intact.
Once a transfer reaches its expiry date, the download link stops working and the files are removed from WeTransfer's servers. On Ultimate plans and above, you can enable recoverable transfers before sending, which allows expired transfers to be restored within a set window if you need to reinstate access, for example if a review period is reopened or a contractor requests files again.
