Share class materials with a built-in closing date

Distributing assignments, lecture recordings, or exam resources works best when access ends on your terms. Set a closing date on any transfer and the link stops working automatically, so students only reach materials during the intended window.

Transfer expiration is in your hands

Educators often need to share files for a fixed period, whether that is an assignment submission pack available only until a deadline, a recorded lecture accessible for revision week, or onboarding documents sent to a new cohort at the start of term. WeTransfer lets you control exactly when a transfer link becomes inactive, so time-sensitive course materials close off without any manual follow-up on your part. All file types used in education travel without compression, meaning PDFs, presentation slides, audio recordings, and video files arrive exactly as you prepared them, with no quality loss. You can pair any transfer with password protection or restrict access to a list of specific email addresses, which is useful when limiting a resource to students enrolled in a particular course. Recipients can preview compatible files directly in the browser before downloading, letting students confirm they have the right document before saving it locally.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

When uploading a transfer, open the expiry settings before clicking send and choose when you want the link to close. On Free and Starter plans, links expire after a maximum of 3 days. On Ultimate and above, you can set any date you like or keep a transfer active indefinitely, which gives you full control over access windows tied to your academic calendar.

Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the relevant transfer, and update the expiration date from there. The change takes effect immediately, so if a submission deadline shifts or you need to extend access for a catch-up group, you can adjust without resending anything.

Yes. When setting up a transfer you can enable restricted access and add a list of email addresses, so only those recipients can open the files after verifying their email. This is useful for distributing marked work, confidential references, or resources that should only reach students registered on a specific module.

Once a transfer expires, the download link stops working and the files are removed from WeTransfer's servers. Students who did not download within the active window will no longer be able to access the content. On Ultimate and above, you can recover an expired transfer if you need to restore access, but on Free and Starter plans recovery is not available.

No. Recipients can open the transfer link, preview compatible files like PDFs and videos directly in the browser, and download everything without creating an account. This keeps things straightforward for students who may be accessing materials on personal devices or across different institutions.
