Upload your CAD files, set when the download link closes, and share with confidence. Access ends automatically at your chosen point, so drawings and models don't stay reachable long after a project milestone has passed.
Transfer expiration is in your hands
CAD files often carry sensitive design details, proprietary geometry, or revision-specific data that should only be accessible during a defined window. WeTransfer lets you attach an expiry to any transfer before it goes out, so the link closes on its own when your handoff period ends. No file format changes, no compression, no resolution loss — your DWG, DXF, STEP, or OBJ files arrive exactly as exported from your design software. For handoffs that need an extra layer of control, you can add a password or lock the transfer to a specific list of email addresses, so only the right people at the right firms or departments can get in. Recipients can also preview supported file types directly in the browser before downloading, which helps them confirm they have the correct revision without committing to a local save.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Before uploading, open the transfer options and find the expiry setting. Free and Starter accounts cap transfers at 3 days, while Ultimate and above let you pick any duration or keep the link open indefinitely. The link stops working automatically once the window closes, so you don't need to revisit the transfer to revoke access manually.
Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer details, and update the expiration date from there. The change takes effect immediately, so you can shorten the window if a project is wrapping up early or extend it if a contractor needs more time. Just let your recipient know directly, since WeTransfer doesn't automatically notify them of the update.
WeTransfer works with any file type, including common CAD formats like DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, OBJ, STL, and 3DM, as well as proprietary design files from tools like AutoCAD, Rhino, or SolidWorks. Files are transferred without any compression or alteration, so the geometry, layers, and metadata arrive exactly as they left your machine.
Free accounts can send up to 3 GB per transfer, which covers most individual CAD files and small project sets. On Ultimate and above, there is no per-transfer size cap, so you can send large assemblies, full project folders, or multi-file exports in one go without splitting them up.
Yes. When setting up your transfer, you can lock access to a defined list of email addresses so only those contacts can open the download, even if the link is forwarded elsewhere. You can also add a password as a second layer of control. Both options are available on all plans and can be combined, which is useful for transfers going to external contractors, clients, or manufacturing partners.
