When you set up a transfer on WeTransfer, you will find an expiry option in the transfer window before you click send. Choose the date you want the link to stop working and WeTransfer handles the rest automatically. Free and Starter accounts can set expiry up to 3 days. On Ultimate and above, you can choose any custom duration or keep the transfer open indefinitely.


Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer, and update the expiry date from there. The change takes effect immediately, so if a deadline shifts or a client needs more time, you can extend or shorten the window without resending anything. It is worth letting recipients know directly, since they will not receive an automatic notification when the date changes.


WeTransfer handles any file type, including video edits, audio spots, PDF presentations, InDesign and Illustrator files, high-resolution images, ZIP archives, and Office documents. Files are sent without any compression or re-encoding, so a 4K video cut or a layered design file arrives exactly as it left your machine. You can also upload entire folders and recipients will get them with the original structure intact.


Yes. When setting up the transfer you can enable restricted access and add a list of email addresses. Only recipients whose addresses match that list can open the transfer, even if the link is forwarded elsewhere. You can combine this with a password for an additional layer of protection, which is useful for pre-launch campaigns or pitch materials that need to stay tightly controlled until the right moment.


Once the expiry date passes, the download link becomes inactive and the files are removed from WeTransfer's servers. Recipients who try to open the link after that point will find it no longer works. On Ultimate and above, senders can recover an expired transfer within a set recovery window, which can be useful if a client comes back after a deadline asking for files that were part of a previous campaign phase.
