Control exactly when your shared link stops working

Set an expiry date before you send, or adjust it afterward from your Transfers panel. Whether you need a link to close the morning after a deadline or stay live through a lengthy handoff, the timing is yours to decide.

Transfer expiration is in your hands

Getting files to someone is only half the job — deciding how long they stay reachable is the other half. WeTransfer lets you set an expiry window before uploading and change it at any point while the transfer is still active, so access ends when the work does. For quick turnarounds, a short-lived link keeps things tidy and avoids files lingering beyond their usefulness. When a project runs longer, or the files need to stay permanently available, you can stretch the window or remove the deadline altogether on Ultimate. Pair expiry control with password protection or restricted access to layer in even more control over who can reach your files and for how long.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Open the transfer window, click the ellipsis icon or the expiry dropdown before hitting Transfer, and choose your preferred duration. Free and Starter accounts are capped at 3 days. On Ultimate and above, you can pick any duration from a single day to never — transfers can be set to stay live indefinitely.

Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, click the transfer, and open the expiry field to pick a new date. The change takes effect immediately. Keep in mind that recipients won't be notified automatically, so if the timing matters to them, a quick heads-up helps.

Once a transfer expires, the download link stops working and the files are permanently removed from WeTransfer's servers. On Ultimate, Teams, and Enterprise plans, you can recover expired transfers within a set recovery window, including ones that expired before you upgraded. Free and Starter users cannot recover expired transfers.

Yes, but only on Ultimate and above. When creating a transfer, choose "Never expire" from the expiry settings and the link stays live until you delete it manually. This is useful for ongoing client resources, portfolio pieces, or anything that needs to remain permanently accessible.

It does. Expiry control works independently alongside password protection and restricted access, which you can enable on any plan. You can lock a transfer behind a password, limit downloads to a specific list of email addresses, and still have it expire on a set date — so you control both who can access the files and for how long.
