Keep tabs on your transfer's downloaders

When a PDF matters, whether it's a client proposal, a signed brief, or a time-sensitive document, you need to know it landed. WeTransfer's Transfers panel shows a download status for every sent transfer, and for email transfers, each recipient has their own indicator that updates the moment they download. If you want a more active layer of visibility, enabling Access Control means anyone who opens your link must verify their email address first, and you get a notification each time a download occurs. For deliveries where you need tighter control, Restricted access locks your PDF to a named list of email addresses, letting only the people you specify get through. Recipients can also preview your PDF in the browser before downloading, so they can check it's the right file without having to save it first.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Your Transfers panel shows a download status for every transfer you've sent. For email transfers, a checkmark appears next to each recipient's email address once they've downloaded, and hovering over it shows the exact date and time. No extra setup is required for this basic tracking.

Yes. Before sending, you can enable Access Control and choose Tracked downloads. Anyone who opens your link will need to verify their email address first, and you'll receive a notification each time a download happens, along with a record of who downloaded and when in the transfer's activity log.

Yes. When setting up your transfer, you can enable Restricted downloads under Access Control and add a list of email addresses. Only people whose addresses match that list can access the PDF after verifying their email. You can also edit the access list after sending from the transfer details page, and changes take effect immediately.

Yes. WeTransfer lets recipients open and read a PDF directly in the browser before deciding to download it. They can also leave comments on the file and mark it as a favorite, which is handy for feedback on proposals or creative briefs.

Basic tracking in your Transfers panel is available for both email and link transfers. However, per-recipient download confirmation with timestamps is specific to email transfers, since link transfers don't have named recipients by default. If you need to know exactly who downloaded from a link, enabling Tracked downloads requires each opener to verify their email before accessing the PDF, giving you that individual-level visibility.
