See who downloaded your shared images

When you send photos or image files through WeTransfer, you don't have to wonder whether they arrived. Your Transfers panel shows download activity for every transfer you've sent, and for email deliveries, each recipient gets their own status indicator so you know exactly who has your images and when they grabbed them.

Keep tabs on your transfer's downloaders

Photographers, designers, and anyone delivering visual work to clients often need more than a sent receipt. WeTransfer tracks download activity for every transfer, giving you a clear picture of whether your images have been picked up. For email transfers, a per-recipient indicator updates the moment each person downloads, along with the exact time it happened. If you want an active confirmation layer, enabling Access Control means anyone who opens your download link must verify their email address first, and you receive a notification for each download. For deliveries where access matters most, Restricted downloads lets you lock an image transfer to a named list of email addresses, ensuring only the people you intend can view or save your work.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Go to your Transfers panel and open any sent transfer. For email transfers, you'll see a status indicator next to each recipient's email address that updates the moment they download, including the exact date and time. For link transfers, the panel shows overall download activity so you can confirm the files have been picked up.

Basic download status is visible in your Transfers panel automatically, with no setup required. If you want richer tracking, you can enable Access Control before sending: anyone who opens your link must verify their email address first, and you receive a detailed notification each time a download occurs. This setting is available on all plans and must be switched on by you before the transfer is sent.

Link transfers show overall download activity in your Transfers panel, but they don't tie downloads to individual recipients by default. If you need per-person visibility on a link transfer, enable Tracked downloads under Access Control before sending: each person who opens the link will verify their email address, and you'll receive a notification identifying them when they download.

Yes. Before sending, you can enable Restricted downloads and provide a list of email addresses. When someone opens the link, they must verify their email, and access is only granted if their address matches your list. This is useful for delivering final image assets to a specific client or keeping sensitive visuals away from unintended viewers. You can also update the access list after sending from the transfer details page.

No. WeTransfer sends files in their original quality with no re-encoding, compression, or resolution loss, including full-resolution RAW files, PSD files, and 4K imagery. Recipients can also preview images in-browser before downloading, which displays at a slightly lower resolution for preview purposes only. The downloaded file is always your original, untouched version.
