Confirm who received your healthcare files

In healthcare, knowing a file was sent is not enough. WeTransfer shows you the download status of every transfer directly from your account, and with email delivery each recipient is tracked individually, so you can confirm who collected patient records, referral documents, or clinical materials and follow up with anyone who has not.

Keep tabs on your transfer's downloaders

Healthcare teams and practitioners share documents where confirmed delivery is not just convenient but necessary, from referral packets and imaging results to consent forms and care-coordination files. WeTransfer records download activity on every transfer you send, giving you a clear view of what has been collected and by whom, without requiring a reply from the recipient. For email transfers sent to more than one contact, each person carries a separate status, so you can see immediately which provider, administrator, or external partner still needs to retrieve their copy. When a verifiable record of access matters, enabling Access Control before you send requires each person who opens your link to verify their email address first, and you receive a notification each time the files are downloaded. For materials intended only for named individuals, Restricted downloads ties the transfer to a specific list of approved addresses, so sensitive clinical documents reach only the people they were meant for.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Open your Transfers panel after sending and find the transfer in question. For email transfers, a status indicator appears next to each recipient's address, updating the moment they download, and hovering over it shows the exact date and time. For link transfers, the panel shows whether the files have been downloaded at least once.

Basic download status is available for all transfers without any extra setup. If you want a notification each time someone accesses your files, enable Access Control before sending and select Tracked downloads. Anyone who opens the link must first verify their email address, and you receive a detailed notification for each download event.

Yes. Before sending, enable Access Control and choose the Restricted downloads option, then add the email addresses of the people who should have access. Anyone who opens the link must verify their email against that list, and access is denied if their address is not on it. You can update the list after sending from the transfer details page.

WeTransfer encrypts files in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stores data on EU-based AWS infrastructure, and holds ISO 27001 certification. The service is GDPR-compliant, and Data Processing Agreements are available for paid plan customers. Files are never shared with third parties or used to train AI models, and all uploads are scanned automatically for malware.

Yes. WeTransfer does not re-encode, compress, or alter your files in any way, so a scanned form, a radiology PDF, or any other clinical document arrives byte-for-byte identical to what you uploaded. Recipients can also preview supported file types, including PDFs, directly in the browser before downloading, without needing any additional software.
