Keep tabs on your transfer's downloaders

Artists and creators put real effort into every file they share, whether it's a finished illustration, a music demo, a photography package, or a video cut. WeTransfer lets you check download status at any time from your account, so you know the moment someone collects your work without having to send a follow-up message. For email transfers, each recipient gets a separate status, giving you a clear read on who has your files and who might still need a nudge. When you want more visibility, enabling Access Control before you send prompts every downloader to verify their email address first, and you get a notification each time your files are accessed. For exclusive drops, client proofs, or deliveries meant for a specific person, Restricted downloads ties the transfer to a named list so only the right eyes reach your work.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Open your Transfers panel and find the transfer you sent. Each transfer shows a download status, and for email transfers, you can see a per-recipient checkmark that updates the moment they download. Hover over a recipient's status to see the exact date and time they collected your files.

Basic download status is available on all plans with no setup required. If you want richer detail, such as a notification every time someone opens the link and their verified email address logged, you need to enable Access Control (Tracked downloads) before sending. It is not on by default, so enabling it is a deliberate step you take when it matters.

Yes. Enabling Tracked downloads on a transfer means WeTransfer prompts each person who opens your link to verify their email address before downloading, and sends you a notification with their details each time access happens. You can also review the full activity in that transfer's details page.

Restricted downloads lets you tie a transfer to a list of approved email addresses. Anyone who opens the link is asked to verify their email, and access is granted only if they appear on your list. It is useful for client proofs, exclusive previews, or any delivery where you want tight control over who can reach your files.

WeTransfer works with any file type, including high-resolution images, RAW photos, PSDs, video edits, audio demos, PDFs, and design files. Files are sent in their original quality with no re-encoding or compression that alters the content, so what your recipient downloads is exactly what you uploaded. Recipients can also preview images, video, audio, and PDFs in-browser before downloading, and leave comments directly on individual files.
