Track who downloaded your construction files

In construction, knowing a file landed is as important as sending it. WeTransfer shows you the download status of every transfer directly from your account, so you can confirm that drawings, specifications, or site reports reached the right people without having to follow up manually.

Keep tabs on your transfer's downloaders

Construction projects move on tight schedules, and critical documents like blueprints, tender packages, and contract revisions need to reach the right people at the right time. WeTransfer records download activity for every transfer you send, updating your Transfers panel the moment a recipient collects the files. For email transfers, each recipient gets a separate status so you can see at a glance which subcontractors, clients, or site managers have picked up their copy and who still needs a reminder. When you need a firmer audit trail, enabling Access Control before you send requires anyone opening the link to verify their email address first, and you receive a notification each time a download takes place. For sensitive documents like contractor proposals or pre-tender drawings, Restricted downloads ties access to a named list of approved addresses so the files only reach the people you intended.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Open your Transfers panel and find the transfer you sent. If you delivered by email, each recipient shows their own download status, including a timestamp when you hover over it, so you can see exactly who has collected the files and when. For link transfers, the panel shows whether the files have been downloaded at least once.

Yes, but you need to enable it before sending. Turning on Access Control adds an email verification step for anyone opening your link, and WeTransfer sends you a notification each time a download occurs. This is useful for time-sensitive deliveries like tender submissions or RFI responses where you need a clear record of who received what.

Yes. When setting up your transfer, enable Restricted downloads and add the email addresses of the people who should have access. Anyone else who opens the link will be blocked, even if they have the URL. This is particularly useful for distributing confidential drawings, pricing schedules, or pre-award documents to a controlled list of recipients.

WeTransfer works with virtually any file type used on a construction project, including PDFs, CAD and 3D model files, Office documents, large image sets, ZIP archives, and video walkthroughs. Files are sent in their original quality with no compression or re-encoding, so technical drawings and specifications arrive exactly as you prepared them.

When you send by email, you can add multiple recipients and each one gets their own download status in your Transfers panel. This makes it straightforward to confirm that everyone on a distribution list, such as a main contractor, quantity surveyor, and project manager, has received and collected the files, and to follow up with anyone who has not.
