Know when your CAD files have been downloaded

Sending CAD files to a client or contractor means the work isn't done until you know they actually received them. WeTransfer gives you a clear view of download activity for every transfer, right from your account, with per-recipient detail on email deliveries so you can confirm receipt without a back-and-forth chase.

Keep tabs on your transfer's downloaders

CAD deliverables are often tied to project milestones, approvals, or tight handover deadlines, so confirming receipt matters as much as sending. WeTransfer logs download activity for every transfer you send, and your Transfers panel updates in real time the moment a file is picked up. If you sent your CAD files to multiple contacts by email, each recipient has a separate download status so you can see exactly whose copy is sitting uncollected. For a more active confirmation layer, you can enable Access Control before sending: anyone who opens the link verifies their email address first, and you get a notification each time a download happens. If your drawings contain proprietary geometry or unreleased designs, Restricted downloads lets you tie the transfer to a named list of approved addresses, so the files only reach the people they were intended for.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Open your Transfers panel and find the transfer you sent. For email deliveries, each recipient's address shows its own download status, updated the moment they collect the files. For link transfers, the panel shows an overall downloaded or not-yet-downloaded label.

Basic download tracking is on by default for all transfers. You can see status updates in your Transfers panel without changing any settings. If you want a detailed notification each time someone downloads, you'll need to enable Access Control before sending, which adds email verification at the point of download and sends you a notification for every access event.

Yes. Before sending, you can enable Restricted downloads under Access Control and specify a list of email addresses. Anyone who opens your link must verify their email, and access is only granted if their address matches your list. This is particularly useful for proprietary drawings or models that shouldn't leave a controlled distribution.

WeTransfer sends files in their original format without re-encoding, compression, or any alteration to the file contents. Your DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, or any other CAD format arrives exactly as uploaded, so recipients can open them directly in their software without any conversion step.

Download status is visible for any active transfer in your Transfers panel, including ones you sent earlier. If you did not enable Access Control at the time of sending, you'll see the overall download status rather than per-event notifications. For future transfers where detailed tracking matters, enable Access Control before uploading.
