Keep tabs on your transfer's downloaders

For advertising and marketing professionals, knowing whether a client picked up that campaign deck or media pack matters as much as sending it in the first place. WeTransfer updates your Transfers panel the moment someone downloads your files, and email transfers show a separate status per recipient so you can see exactly who has collected their copy and who has not. When confirmed access is critical, such as distributing pre-launch creative or a confidential brief, enabling Access Control before you send requires each downloader to verify their email address, and you receive a notification every time someone accesses the files. For deliveries that need tighter control, Restricted downloads ties the transfer to a specific list of approved addresses, so your campaign materials only reach the people you intended. No follow-up email needed.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Go to your Transfers panel and find the transfer you sent. Each email transfer shows a per-recipient download status, and you can hover over the checkmark next to a recipient's address to see the exact date and time they downloaded. If you sent via a link instead, the panel shows an overall downloaded or not-yet-downloaded status for that transfer.

Basic download tracking is on for all transfers automatically. For more detailed visibility, Access Control needs to be explicitly enabled before you send. Once active, it requires anyone opening your link to verify their email address first, and you get a notification each time a download happens, along with a log showing who downloaded and when.

Yes. Restricted downloads, part of Access Control, lets you tie a transfer to a named list of email addresses. Anyone who opens the link must verify their email, and access is only granted if they appear on your list. This is useful for pre-launch campaign materials or assets shared exclusively with a specific agency or client team.

WeTransfer sends files in their original quality with no re-encoding or compression, so high-resolution visuals and video footage arrive exactly as you uploaded them. Any file type works, including video, images, PDFs, audio, and design files, making it practical for full campaign deliveries in a single transfer.

Recipients can preview images, video, audio, and PDFs directly in the browser without downloading anything first. If comments are enabled on the transfer, reviewers can leave feedback on individual files and mark their favorites, which makes it easier to gather client input on creative assets before a final handoff.
