Comment and collaborate on shared ZIP files

Sending a ZIP file through WeTransfer does more than move files from one place to another. Recipients can preview supported files inside the archive before downloading, leave comments on individual ones, and mark favorites, all without a WeTransfer account. You stay in control of the transfer from your account, updating titles, descriptions, and settings long after it goes out.

Collaborate on every transfer

When you need feedback on a collection of files, a ZIP archive sent through WeTransfer keeps everything together and the conversation close to the actual work. Recipients can open the preview, comment on individual files inside the transfer, and flag their favorites without downloading anything first. You get an email notification each time a new comment lands, so feedback stays visible rather than lost in a separate thread. From the transfer detail page, you can rename the transfer, update its description, or switch commenting on and off at any point after sending. For anything that needs tighter control, password protection and access restriction to specific email addresses are available on every plan.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

Yes. WeTransfer lets recipients open the browser preview for your transfer and leave comments on individual files, including images, PDFs, audio, and video, without extracting or downloading the ZIP first. They do not need a WeTransfer account to comment, just a name and email address when prompted. You receive an email notification each time a new comment is added.

WeTransfer's in-browser preview supports a broad range of formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, PSD, RAW formats, MP4 and MOV video up to 300 MB, MP3 and WAV audio up to 300 MB, PDFs, and common Office documents. Files that fall outside the supported list will show in the transfer but cannot be previewed in the browser, so recipients would need to download those individually.

Yes. Go to your Transfers panel, open the transfer detail page, and you can rename the transfer and edit its description at any time while the transfer is active. Changes take effect immediately, so the updated title shows in the download page and in your transfer list. It is worth letting your recipients know directly if the context has changed, since they are not automatically notified of edits.

You can enable or disable comments on a transfer after sending by going to the transfer detail page, scrolling to Extra settings, and adjusting the Comments option. Turning comments off hides existing ones from recipients but does not delete them. Switching them back on restores the full comment history, so nothing is lost in the process.

Yes. Anyone previewing the transfer can mark individual files as favorites directly in the browser, which is useful when recipients want to flag the specific assets they prefer or want you to prioritize. Senders can see which files were marked, making it easier to act on feedback without a separate round of emails to figure out what people actually liked.
