Speed up media reviews with file-level comments

In news and media, feedback cycles move fast and files change hands constantly. WeTransfer lets recipients comment on individual footage clips, images, scripts, and PDFs inside a browser preview, while you keep full editorial control over the transfer, its settings, and who has access.

Collaborate on every transfer

Newsrooms and media teams routinely share rushes, cuts, scripts, and photo selects with editors, producers, and contributors who need to respond quickly and precisely. WeTransfer anchors each comment to the specific file it refers to, so a note about a particular frame, a caption correction, or a script query stays attached to the relevant asset rather than getting buried in a side channel. Recipients can open the transfer in any browser, preview supported files, leave comments, and mark favorites without downloading anything or creating an account, which keeps things moving even when colleagues are in the field or on deadline. You receive an email notification each time a comment lands, so you can track the review in real time without chasing anyone. From the transfer detail page you can rename the transfer, update its description, or adjust comment permissions after sending, with no need to re-upload.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

When you send a transfer with comments enabled, recipients open the link in their browser and click on any previewable file to access the comment field. They can type a note directly on that file, whether it is a video clip, a still image, or a PDF script page, without downloading anything or signing up for an account. They just need to enter their name and email address if they are not logged in. You receive an email notification each time someone adds a comment.

Recipients can preview JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, PSD, and a range of RAW formats for stills, MP4 and MOV video files up to 300 MB, MP3 and WAV audio up to 300 MB, and PDFs including scripts and production documents. Files display at a slightly lower resolution than the original inside the preview, so the source quality is always preserved for download. For file types outside these formats, recipients can still download and review them locally.

Yes. The browser preview shows all files in the transfer individually, so a recipient can go straight to the clip, image, or document they need to review and comment on just that file. They can also mark individual files as favorites, which is useful when a picture editor is shortlisting selects or a producer is flagging preferred takes from a larger batch.

Yes. Go to the transfer in your Transfers panel, open the transfer detail page, scroll to Extra settings, and expand the Comments section to change the setting. Turning comments off hides existing comments from recipients but does not delete them, so if you re-enable comments later they reappear. This gives you the flexibility to open a transfer for review feedback and then close it once editorial decisions are made.

You can enable the Restricted downloads option when setting up your transfer, or manage access from the transfer detail page after sending. Restricted access means anyone who opens the link must verify their email address, and only addresses on your specified list are granted entry. This is particularly useful for embargoed press assets or pre-release footage you need to share with specific outlets or contributors without the risk of wider distribution.
