Recipients can open supported spreadsheet files, including XLS, XLSX, and CSV, directly in the WeTransfer browser preview and leave comments on individual files without downloading anything or creating an account. This keeps feedback tied to the specific file it refers to, which is far easier to manage than chasing replies across an email thread. You receive a notification each time a new comment is posted.
You can restrict a transfer so that only people on a named list of email addresses can open it, available on every plan. Anyone who follows the download link will need to verify they are on your access list before seeing anything. You can also add a password as an additional layer, and both settings can be adjusted from the transfer detail page after sending.
Yes. From the transfer detail page in your account, you can edit the title, update the description, and change settings like commenting permissions at any point while the transfer is active. This is useful during a consulting engagement when the scope evolves or a revised spreadsheet replaces an earlier version and you need the transfer record to reflect the change.
WeTransfer does not merge new file versions into an existing transfer, so a revised spreadsheet would need to go out as a new transfer. That said, you can forward an active transfer to the same or new recipients directly from your Sent panel without re-uploading, which saves time when the files themselves have not changed but you need to reach additional reviewers.
All files are encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stored on AWS infrastructure in EU data centers. WeTransfer is ISO 27001 certified and fully GDPR-compliant, with data processing agreements available for business plan customers. WeTransfer does not view, sell, or share your files, and content is never used to train AI models, which matters when the spreadsheets contain client financial data or audit evidence.
