You can send by email to specific recipients or generate a shareable link to distribute through an internal channel. No software installation is required on either end, and recipients can download without a WeTransfer account.
WeTransfer supports any file type, so teams can send PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, scanned images, presentations, GIS data exports, ZIP archives, video briefings, and more in a single transfer. Files are sent in their original format with no compression or quality loss, which matters when sharing official documents or high-fidelity scans that need to remain unaltered.
You can lock any transfer behind a password that you share separately with intended recipients, or use restricted access to limit downloads to a specific list of email addresses. Download tracking lets you see exactly who has accessed the files and when, which is useful for audit purposes or confirming that a partner organisation has received a document. These controls are available on all plans.
WeTransfer encrypts files in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256, stores data on AWS infrastructure in EU data centers, and is ISO 27001 certified and GDPR-compliant. Your files are never used to train AI models, never sold to third parties, and WeTransfer staff do not view file contents. Data Processing Agreements are available for business plan customers, which can help meet procurement and compliance requirements.
With a free account, you can send an email transfer to up to 10 recipients at once. Paid plans raise that to 50 recipients per email transfer. If you need to reach a larger group, such as a distribution list or an interagency network, you can generate a shareable link instead, which has no recipient limit and can be embedded in an existing communication or portal.
