Send your first transfer

Uploading made effortless

When you need to send documents quickly, WeTransfer keeps the process down to three steps: drag your files in, add a recipient email or copy a shareable link, and send. The upload starts the moment your files land on the page, so there is no waiting around before anything happens. Every document arrives exactly as you sent it, whether that is a multi-page PDF, a formatted Word file, an Excel workbook, or a PowerPoint deck, with nothing altered in transit. You can lock any transfer with a password, limit access to specific email addresses, or track exactly who downloaded your files, all from the same interface without any extra setup. Recipients can preview PDFs and common Office formats directly in the browser before deciding what to download, which saves time when you are sharing documents for review.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

WeTransfer accepts any file type you can drag in, including PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, RTF files, CSVs, and plain text files. There is no conversion or compatibility check on the way in — your file lands on the other end in exactly the format you sent it.

Yes. Recipients can open PDFs, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files directly in the browser without downloading first. The preview lets them read through the document, leave comments on individual files, and mark favorites, so document reviews can happen before anyone pulls the full file.

You can add as many files as you need in one go, and WeTransfer handles them all in a single transfer. On a free account, transfers are capped at 3 GB per transfer and 10 transfers per rolling 30-day window, which is enough for most document sharing. If you regularly move larger batches or heavier files, upgrading to Ultimate removes the per-transfer size cap entirely.

Yes, and you can set a password before or after sending. Add it in the transfer options panel before you click send, or go back into your Transfers panel afterward and set or update it there. Only recipients who have the password can access the files, and it applies across all plans including free.

On the free plan, transfers expire after up to 3 days. On Ultimate and above, you can set a custom expiry window or keep the link active indefinitely. You can also adjust the expiry date on any active transfer from your Transfers panel, even after the files have already been sent.
