WeTransfer works with any file type, so spreadsheets, CSVs, JSON, XML, SQL exports, database dumps, and research data files all transfer without any conversion or alteration. There is no format-specific handling, and every file arrives exactly as it was on your machine. If you have a mix of data formats packaged into a folder, you can upload the whole folder at once and the original structure comes through intact on the recipient's end.
No. WeTransfer does not re-encode, compress, or modify your files in any way during the transfer. A CSV, Excel workbook, or database export arrives byte-for-byte as you uploaded it, which matters when the integrity of the data inside the file is important. What you drag onto the page is exactly what your recipient downloads.
Yes. WeTransfer supports folder uploads, so you can drag a whole directory of data files, scripts, and supporting assets onto the homepage in one go. The folder structure is preserved, meaning subfolders and file organization come through exactly as arranged on your machine. Recipients download everything with the same layout, which is useful when the folder structure itself is part of the workflow.
You have a couple of options. Adding a password means only recipients who know it can open the transfer, and you share that password separately outside of WeTransfer. Alternatively, restricted access lets you specify a list of email addresses, so only those people can download after verifying their identity. Both options are available on all plans and can be set before you send or adjusted afterwards from your Transfers panel.
On a free account, each transfer can include up to 3 GB of files per send. If you need to move larger datasets or batch exports without a size cap, upgrading to Ultimate removes the per-transfer size limit entirely. There is no restriction on the number of individual files you include in one transfer regardless of plan, so you can bundle as many CSVs or data exports as your workflow requires.
