You can add your recipient's email address for direct delivery to their inbox, or switch to a link transfer and copy the URL to share wherever you need it. Your originals stay exactly where they are on your machine, and every file arrives at the other end unchanged.
WeTransfer accepts any file type without restriction, so you can send Excel workbooks, PDF reports, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, CSV data exports, ZIP archives, and more in the same transfer. Files are sent in their original format with no re-encoding or compression, which means formulas, formatting, and embedded data all arrive intact. You can also upload entire folders and recipients will download them with the original folder structure preserved.
Two access control options are available on all plans. Password protection requires recipients to enter a password before downloading, which you share with them separately outside of WeTransfer. Restricted access goes further by limiting downloads to specific email addresses you nominate, so only the people on your list can open the transfer even if the link ends up elsewhere. You can also enable download tracking to see exactly who downloaded the files and when.
No. Recipients can download and preview files without creating an account or installing anything. They click the link in the notification email or open the transfer URL directly and can download straight away. A free account is only required to send transfers, not to receive them.
On the free plan, transfers are available for up to 3 days. On the Ultimate plan, you can set a custom expiry or keep transfers active indefinitely so clients can return to documents at their convenience. If a transfer does expire, Ultimate users can recover it, including transfers that expired before they upgraded. Free plan users cannot recover expired transfers, so for ongoing client engagements or multi-phase audits a paid plan is worth considering.
