Uploading made effortless

Engineers, architects, and designers working with CAD files need a way to share large, complex projects without the usual friction of file transfer tools. Drag your DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, or any other CAD format onto the WeTransfer homepage and uploading starts before you have even decided who to send it to. Every file travels exactly as it left your software, with no re-encoding or quality loss, so the precise geometry and dimensions your recipient opens will match what you exported. You can send directly to a colleague's inbox or generate a shareable link to drop into a message, email, or project management thread. For sensitive client work or proprietary designs, you can restrict access to specific email addresses or lock the transfer behind a password so only the right people can download.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

WeTransfer accepts any file type, so DWG, DXF, STEP, STP, IGES, IGS, STL, OBJ, SLDPRT, RVT, and any other CAD or BIM format will upload without issue. No conversion or special handling is needed on your end. The file arrives at the other side in exactly the format you sent it.

No. WeTransfer sends files in their original state with no re-encoding, no compression, and no modification to the data. The tolerances, geometry, and internal structure of your CAD file will be identical when your recipient downloads it. What leaves your machine is exactly what arrives.

Yes. WeTransfer supports full folder uploads, and the original folder structure is preserved for the recipient. This is useful for CAD assemblies that reference external part files or drawings stored in subfolders, since the file relationships stay intact. Recipients download the folder exactly as you organised it.

On a free account you can send up to 3 GB per transfer, which covers many individual drawings or moderate-sized assemblies. If you are working with large surface models, full building information models, or complete project packages that exceed that, upgrading to Ultimate removes the per-transfer size cap entirely. Free accounts are also limited to 10 transfers per rolling 30-day period.

Yes. You can add a password to any transfer so only recipients who have it can access the files. You can also restrict access to a specific list of email addresses, which means anyone outside that list is blocked even if they have the link. Both options are available on all plans and can be set before or after sending.
