Why choose WeTransfer

When you're weighing up options, the everyday workflow matters as much as the headline specs. WeTransfer handles any file type you throw at it — video, audio, design files, 3D assets, Office documents, ZIP archives — and delivers them at original quality, with no re-encoding and no resolution loss. Senders get a choice between shareable download links and direct email delivery, plus tools like password protection, per-email access restrictions, and download tracking to stay in control of who gets what. Recipients can preview images, PDFs, video, and audio directly in their browser, leave comments on individual files, and download only what they need, all without creating an account. For individuals and teams who want more, WeTransfer scales up to branded transfers, custom expiry, expired transfer recovery, malware scanning, and shared workspaces with centralized billing.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

No account is needed on the receiving end. Anyone with the download link can access, preview, and download the files directly in their browser. Signing up is only required if you want to send files yourself.

WeTransfer works with virtually any file type: video, images, audio, PDFs, design files, 3D and CAD formats, Office documents, ZIP archives, and more. Files are sent exactly as you uploaded them, with no re-encoding, no compression, and no quality loss — a 4K video arrives as a 4K video.

Quite a lot. You can add a password so only recipients who know it can download. You can also restrict access to a specific list of email addresses, meaning anyone outside that list is blocked even if they have the link. Download tracking lets you see exactly who downloaded and when, and you can delete a transfer at any time to immediately revoke access.

On the free plan, transfers expire after a maximum of 3 days. Ultimate plan subscribers can set a custom expiry or keep transfers active indefinitely. Ultimate users can also recover expired transfers, including ones that expired before upgrading, subject to recovery windows based on file size.

It works well for both. Individual senders get a full-featured free plan and can upgrade to Ultimate for branded transfers, custom expiry, and subscriber benefits. For teams, the Teams plan adds shared storage, centralized billing, up to 50 members, and shared branding — so everyone sends from the same page, literally.
