Sometimes you just need to send a file, not reorganize your entire digital life. WeTransfer is built around that moment: upload, share a link or send to an inbox, and the person on the other end gets their files without signing up for anything.
Why choose WeTransfer
If you landed here weighing your options, the core question is usually whether a file sharing tool fits how you actually work, not just how it looks on a spec sheet. WeTransfer is a browser-based sender, meaning there is nothing to install, no folder structures to maintain, and no storage subscription to justify before you can move a file. Every transfer gets its own unique download link that works in any chat, email, or social post, and recipients can preview images, video, audio, and PDFs directly in the browser before they commit to downloading. Files leave your hands exactly as you uploaded them, with no re-encoding, no compression, and no resolution loss, whether you are sending a 4K edit, a batch of layered design files, or a ZIP archive of project assets. For senders who need more control, WeTransfer offers password protection, per-transfer access restrictions, download tracking, and custom expiry on paid plans, along with branded pages, shared team workspaces, and malware scanning built in.
Our features are designed to minimize how much of your data we — or anyone else — can access, so you can keep what's yours, yours.

All your questions answered.
Recipients need no account of any kind to download a WeTransfer transfer. They click the link or the button in the notification email, and the download starts. A free WeTransfer account is required to send transfers, but the person on the receiving end never has to sign up for anything.
Free accounts let you send up to 3 GB per transfer, with up to 10 transfers and 3 GB of total monthly bandwidth in a rolling 30-day window, and links stay active for up to 3 days. Upgrading to WeTransfer Ultimate removes the per-transfer size cap entirely, gives you unlimited transfers, lets you set any expiry you want including never, and adds features like custom branding, per-transfer access control, malware scanning, and expired transfer recovery.
On the Free plan, transfer links expire after a maximum of 3 days. On WeTransfer Ultimate and above, you can set a custom expiry or choose to keep transfers available indefinitely — the link stays live until you delete it. Ultimate users can also recover expired transfers, even ones that expired before they upgraded, subject to the recovery windows that apply based on file size.
Link transfers have no recipient limit — copy the download link and share it anywhere, from a group chat to a newsletter to social media, and anyone with the link can download. If you prefer email delivery, free accounts support up to 10 recipients per transfer and paid plans go up to 50. For situations where you want tighter control, you can restrict access to a specific list of email addresses so only those people can open the transfer.
WeTransfer was built with creatives in mind. Files go out at their original quality, with no re-encoding and no resolution loss, including 4K video and raw image formats. Recipients can preview JPEG, PNG, PSD, RAW, MP4, MOV, PDF, and a range of other formats directly in the browser before downloading, and they can comment on individual files or mark favorites without creating an account.
