Sending files: what WeTransfer brings to the table

If you're comparing tools for sending files, the experience on both ends matters as much as the feature list. WeTransfer is built for straightforward sending, full-quality delivery, and zero friction for the person receiving, whether they're a client, a collaborator, or someone you've never worked with before.

Why choose WeTransfer

People searching for the right file sending tool usually want to know one thing: will this actually work without getting in the way? WeTransfer gives you a browser-based sending experience with no software to install, no account required for recipients, and no re-encoding of your files at any point in the process. You can send via a shareable link or direct email delivery, add a password to lock down access, or restrict a transfer to a specific list of email addresses if the work is sensitive. Recipients can preview images, video, audio, and PDFs directly in the browser before downloading, and they can comment on individual files without creating an account. For senders who need more, WeTransfer scales up to per-transfer branding, custom expiry, download tracking, and shared workspaces for teams.

FAQs

All your questions answered.

WeTransfer is built around the act of sending, not storing. You upload files, get a unique download link, and the person on the other end downloads without signing up for anything. There's no shared folder to manage, no permission structure to configure, and no account for your recipient to maintain. If your priority is getting files from A to B cleanly, that focus makes a real difference.

No. WeTransfer sends files exactly as they are, with no re-encoding, no compression, and no resolution loss. That applies to everything from 4K video and RAW photo formats to layered design files, CAD packages, and PDFs. What you upload is what your recipient downloads.

Every transfer gets a unique download link, and you can leave it open or tighten access depending on the situation. You can add a password that recipients must enter before downloading, or restrict access to a specific list of email addresses so only named people can get through. You can also enable download tracking to see who downloaded your files and when, which you turn on explicitly per transfer.

On the free plan, transfers are available for up to 3 days. On Ultimate and above, you can set a custom expiry window or keep transfers active indefinitely with no expiry at all. Ultimate subscribers can also recover expired transfers, including ones that expired before upgrading, so a lapsed link doesn't necessarily mean the files are gone for good.

Yes. With email delivery, you can send to up to 10 recipients on a free account and up to 50 on paid plans. If you use a shareable link instead, there's no recipient limit at all. You can share the link anywhere: in a chat, an email thread, on social media, or embedded in a document.
